I've
written around 300 songs. Performed solo and in bands since my teens.
Independently released several albums,
EPs and singles, including Red Sox Blues
in 2002 and Rock of Ages Fall, a local
hit in the mid '90s.
I
was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Been writing songs pretty much my whole life. Got my first
guitar when I was 12 — a Harmony acoustic, a gift from my
grandfather, or "Jido" as my Syrian-American family called him.
Mostly taught myself, playing along with early Beatles, Stones,
Dylan. Learning from friends. Making stuff up. Remember
trying my first Beatles harmonies with my cousin Mitch in the empty
stairwells of Joseph Jenks Jr. High... Remember loving "Paint
It Black" because it reminded me of the "Arab" music
my family sang and danced to.
Got my first cover when I was 14, by The Travelers, my cousin Russ'
band from Attleboro, MA. They did one of my first tunes, Sun Comes
Up... And I thought, Hey, this is what I'm about! Started my first
band soon after.
Over the years I've kept at it, making music to save my own soul.
Making great friends. Getting strong encouragement.
And most of the time believing that the best of my songs will be
enjoyed by a large audience.
Working
on a new album with producer Brian
Maes and guitarist Kook
Lawry was a daydream come true. The band and special guests put their all into the tracks. And the cut of Red Sox Blues found its way to Fenway Park and Boston radio, kinda doing its part as the Sox finally broke thru again.
Of late I've been putting together a new band with Jim Antonellis on drums, Chris Schluntz on lead guitar and Chris Scribner on bass and keys. Here's a "basement tape" of a new song we're working up, Dancin' in My Dreams.
